Text: Acts 4:8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: 9 If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, 10 let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. 

A. Jesus Christ’s resurrection power, Peter’s faith on This power.

• Jesus did His part
  • DIED -> RESURRECTED -> ASCENDED -> SENT THE COMFORTER
• Peter did his part, How?
  • By faith, filled with the Holy Spirit. Then, by fearlessly witnessing Jesus Christ.
  • Being filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus said would empower them to be witnesses (Acts 1:8)

B. Filling vs Indwelling of the Holy Spirit

• How did Peter show his part? AS AN EMPOWERED WITNESS.
  • not the judge
  • relates what he had experienced, thereby providing evidence to the truth of something
  • to witness in word and deed to the truth of Jesus being alive in us.

C. When you do your part (witness) in Christ’s name, then here comes...

• threatening
• suffering
• ...release

D. Warning: relieving the soul: Do we have to be filled with the Holy Spirit first before witnessing? WHAT IF NOT?

• Peter had denied Jesus in front of a servant girl just a few weeks before (Mark 14:66-68 and Luke 22:56-57)
• Tendency to faint or fall.

May we not come to a point where we give up our worship to the One just to satisfy our soul.

Lamentations 1:11,19

[11] All her people sigh, they seek bread; they have given their pleasant things for meat to relieve the soul: see, O LORD, and consider; for I am become vile.

[19] I called for my lovers, but they deceived me: my priests and mine elders gave up the ghost in the city, while they sought their meat to relieve their souls.

D. As God has given the Holy Spirit to empower us (GOD`s PART), 

Let us then choose (MY PART) to be filled with the Holy Spirit to be His witnesses unto many.

A witness, therefore, say that...

Acts 4:19 But Peter and John answered them, "Whether it`s right in the sight of God for us to listen to you rather than to God, you decide;

20 for we are unable to stop speaking about what we have seen and heard." (MY PART)

B. The Challenges between Nathanael and Philip

v47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!”

Nathanael questioned the 1st sprout:

v48 Nathanael said to Him,

“How do You know me?”

Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”

Nathanael concluded and declared:

v49 Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”

The gap between verses 48 and 49, Biblical or Physical?

Zechariah 3:10 (NKJV): In that day,’ says the LORD of hosts,  ‘Everyone will invite his neighbor under his vine and under his fig tree.’ ”

And, the 2nd sprout:

50 Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.”

51 And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”

C. To enjoy things is God’s gift.

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

Therefore, we have to enjoy our labour according to our limits, in love, in faith, and in hope.

B. The Bad Report

Numbers 13:27 Then they told him, and said: "We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.

28 Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there.

29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the South; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and along the banks of the Jordan."

C. Effects of bad report -> become unfaithful

• Anybody, a prophet, is not excluded with God’s judgment when he:
  • Taught rebellion against the Lord, Deut. 13:5
  • Speak in the name of God that God has not commanded, Deut. 18:20 he shall die
• How do we know if not God’s word? Deut. 18:21
  • v21 And if you say in your heart, `How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?`--
  • v22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.
• What is the mistake of Moses and Aaron? They did not fight for God. Numbers 20:12 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them."; Numbers 14:5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
  • Consequence: they did not see the promised land. Deut 34:4 Then the Lord said to him, "This is the land of which I swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, `I will give it to your descendants.` I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross over there."; Deut 1:37 The Lord was also angry with me for your sakes, saying, `Even you shall not go in there;

(a) Lord, You know that my sister is unbeliever, therefore tell her to believe You?

(b) Lord, by faith, You gave me this talent or gift, tell our pastor that he will use me in this ministry?

(c) Lord, more souls to accept You as Lord and Savior in the land of Israel, would You send others to preach there?

Did Martha pray for herself or for Mary?

So, how should Martha have prayed?

Therefore,

Compromised the hearing of the Word thru serving in ministries and secular tasks.

If we prioritize on ministries, not on the Word, our approach to the Word is misled.
