2The earth was empty, a formless mass cloaked in darkness. And the Spirit of God was hovering over its surface.And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
3Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
4And God saw that it was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness.And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.evening and the morning were the first day.
5God called the light "day" and the darkness "night." Together these made up one day.And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the second day.
6And God said, "Let there be space between the waters, to separate water from water."And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.”
7And so it was. God made this space to separate the waters above from the waters below.And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so.
8And God called the space "sky." This happened on the second day.And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.
9And God said, "Let the waters beneath the sky be gathered into one place so dry ground may appear." And so it was.And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.9Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so.
10God named the dry ground "land" and the water "seas." And God saw that it was good.And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.
11Then God said, "Let the land burst forth with every sort of grass and seed-bearing plant. And let there be trees that grow seed-bearing fruit. The seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came." And so it was.And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.11Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so.
12The land was filled with seed-bearing plants and trees, and their seeds produced plants and trees of like kind. And God saw that it was good.And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
13This all happened on the third day.And the evening and the morning were the third day.So the evening and the morning were the third day.
14And God said, "Let bright lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. They will be signs to mark off the seasons, the days, and the years.And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years;
15Let their light shine down upon the earth." And so it was.And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so.
16For God made two great lights, the sun and the moon, to shine down upon the earth. The greater one, the sun, presides during the day; the lesser one, the moon, presides through the night. He also made the stars.And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also.
17God set these lights in the heavens to light the earth,And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth,
18to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. 20And God said, "Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind."And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.”
21So God created great sea creatures and every sort of fish and every kind of bird. And God saw that it was good.And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
22Then God blessed them, saying, "Let the fish multiply and fill the oceans. Let the birds increase and fill the earth."And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”
23This all happened on the fifth day.And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.So the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
24And God said, "Let the earth bring forth every kind of animal--livestock, small animals, and wildlife." And so it was.And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so.
25God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to reproduce more of its own kind. And God saw that it was good.And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
26Then God said, "Let us make people in our image, to be like ourselves. They will be masters over all life--the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the livestock, wild animals, and small animals."And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
27So God created people in his own image; God patterned them after himself; male and female he created them.So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
28God blessed them and told them, "Multiply and fill the earth and subdue it. Be masters over the fish and birds and all the animals."And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
29And God said, "Look! I have given you the seed-bearing plants throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food.And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.
30And I have given all the grasses and other green plants to the animals and birds for their food." And so it was.And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so.
31Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was excellent in every way. This all happened on the sixth day.And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
